The story of Lazarus is not just about a man coming back to life – it is a glimpse into the heart of God. Jesus wept, Jesus grieved, Jesus loved. Even knowing He could raise Lazarus, His compassion overflowed. That is how God feels about us when we are lost, spiritually dead, or trapped in despair. Our brokenness wounds Him. Our distance from Him grieves His heart.
Jesus calls Himself the Good Shepherd, and His love is relentless. He does not abandon the lost. He leaves the ninety – nine to seek the one who has gone astray. He steps into our darkest places, confronts the despair, and offers life where there was only death. Just as He raised Lazarus, He can awaken hearts that feel lifeless, restore souls that have been broken, and bring hope to those who think there is none.
Faith is the bridge. Just as Martha and Mary reached out in belief, and Lazarus obeyed the call to rise, we too must reach, trust, and follow. God’s love does not demand perfection – it offers restoration, forgiveness, and a chance to walk in His light again.
This story reminds us that no one is beyond His reach. No life is too lost. No heart is too hardened. God sees, He grieves, and He moves with power and purpose. Just as Lazarus’ life was changed forever, our lives can be transformed by the God who loves us enough to enter our pain, conquer our despair, and call us back into the fullness of life.
If you feel spiritually dead or lost today, remember: the Shepherd will not leave you behind. He will carry you, lift you, and restore you – because He loves you more than life itself.
