Turn on the news for five minutes and it becomes easy to understand why so many people are anxious, angry, and exhausted. Wars rage across the globe. Prices continue to rise. Families struggle to buy groceries. Gas costs more than it should. Division seems to be everywhere. Neighbors fight with neighbors. Politics divide families. Social media profits from outrage. Fear is sold twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week. It often feels as though the world is standing on unstable ground, and for many people, the weight of it all becomes almost unbearable.

But as followers of God, we must remember something the world desperately wants us to forget: God has not abandoned His throne.

Not for one second.

Kings rise and fall. Nations come and go. Economies expand and collapse. Wars begin and eventually end. Entire civilizations have appeared and disappeared throughout history. Yet through every storm, every famine, every conflict, and every crisis, God has remained exactly who He has always been. He is still sovereign. He is still present. He is still working behind scenes we cannot see. The chaos of the world does not surprise Him, and the darkness of this generation has not diminished His power one bit.

The enemy would love nothing more than to steal your joy. Not your possessions. Not your career. Not even your comfort. Your joy. Because a person who loses their joy often loses their hope. And a person who loses hope becomes vulnerable to fear, bitterness, despair, and spiritual weakness. That is why Scripture repeatedly reminds us to keep our eyes fixed on God instead of the storm. Peter walked on water as long as he focused on Christ. The moment he focused on the waves, he began to sink. The same thing happens to us. If all we consume is bad news, fear will eventually become our companion. If all we see is darkness, we will begin to believe darkness is winning.

But darkness has never defeated God.

Not once.

The cross looked like defeat. Three days later it became victory. The tomb looked final. Three days later it was empty. Throughout Scripture, God repeatedly takes situations that appear hopeless and reveals that He was working all along. The same God who delivered Joseph from prison, Daniel from the lions’ den, David from his enemies, and Paul through countless hardships is the same God watching over His people today.

That does not mean life will be easy. It does not mean we ignore reality. There are genuine problems in this world. People are suffering. Families are hurting. Evil is real. But our joy was never supposed to come from circumstances. If our joy depends on the economy, politics, comfort, or stability, it will disappear every time those things change. Biblical joy is different. It comes from knowing that regardless of what happens around us, God remains faithful. The world can take many things from you, but it cannot take the promises of God.

So how do we protect our joy?

We pray more than we panic. We spend more time in God’s Word than we do scrolling through headlines. We remember His faithfulness in the past when facing uncertainty in the future. We worship when fear tells us to worry. We thank God for what we still have instead of obsessing over what we do not. We trust that even when we cannot see His hand, we can trust His heart.

The world may be troubled.

The headlines may be dark.

The future may seem uncertain.

But God is still on His throne.

He still hears prayers.

He still saves souls.

He still opens doors.

He still comforts the brokenhearted.

He still works all things together for good for those who love Him.

So guard your joy.

Protect it.

Feed it with faith.

Strengthen it with prayer.

Anchor it in God’s promises.

Because while the world may be shaking, the God we serve never does.
