WHAT DOES THE BIBLE SAY ABOUT STRESS?

Q: What should I do when stress, worry and anxiety start consuming my life?

The Bible gives us a simple but powerful answer:

“Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.” — 1 Peter 5:7 KJV

A: Notice the word “casting.”

God doesn’t tell you to carry everything until you collapse. He doesn’t tell you to spend every night staring at the ceiling worrying about tomorrow. He tells you to cast your cares upon Him.

That means there are burdens you’re carrying right now that were never meant to stay on your shoulders.

We stress over money. Family. Work. Relationships. Health. The future. Things people said. Things people did. Things that haven’t even happened yet. We replay conversations, imagine worst-case scenarios and mentally live through tomorrow’s problems before tomorrow even arrives.

And eventually the weight starts stealing today’s peace.

Jesus said:

“Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself.” — Matthew 6:34 KJV

That doesn’t mean become irresponsible.

It means stop trying to live tomorrow before God gives it to you.

Handle what you can handle today. Pray about what you cannot control. Make wise decisions. Do your part.

Then let God be God.

Sometimes we pray about something and immediately pick the burden back up again. We tell God we trust Him, then spend the next six hours worrying as though everything still depends entirely upon us.

That’s not surrender.

Faith means learning to say:

“God, I have done what I can. The rest belongs to You.”

And then allowing yourself to breathe.

The most beautiful part of 1 Peter 5:7 isn’t simply that God tells us where to put our cares.

It’s why we can put them there:

“For he careth for you.”

The God who created the heavens knows what you’re carrying.

He sees the bills.

He sees the broken relationship.

He sees the uncertainty.

He sees the nights when your mind won’t shut off.

He sees the things you’re afraid to tell anyone else.

And He cares.

You don’t have to solve your entire life tonight.

You don’t have to know exactly what happens next.

You don’t have to carry tomorrow today.

Pray.

Slow down.

Trust God.

Take care of the responsibilities He has placed in front of you today—and place the things beyond your control into His hands.

Stress asks:

“What if everything goes wrong?”

Faith answers:

“Even then, God will still be God.”

“Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.” — 1 Peter 5:7 KJV

Give it to Him.

And stop picking it back up.
