There are things you’ve told other people.
Then there are the things you’ve never told anyone.
The mistakes that still keep you awake at night.
The words you wish you could take back.
The people you hurt.
The opportunities you wasted.
The sins you buried so deeply that you hope no one will ever discover them.
Maybe you’ve reached the place where you’ve quietly asked yourself…
“Could God really love someone like me?”
If that’s your question, you’re not the first person to ask it.
The Bible is filled with men and women who failed in remarkable ways.
King David committed adultery with Bathsheba and then arranged for her husband, Uriah, to be killed in battle. When the prophet Nathan confronted him, David did not make excuses. He humbled himself before God, confessed his sin, and sincerely repented.
God forgave David.
The consequences of his sins remained, but God’s mercy did not leave him.
The apostle Peter boldly promised Jesus that he would never deny Him.
Yet only hours later, Peter denied even knowing Christ three different times.
Imagine the shame he carried.
Yet after His resurrection, Jesus restored Peter and entrusted him with caring for His people.
The man who failed so publicly became one of the greatest leaders of the early church.
Then there is Paul.
Before becoming an apostle, Paul persecuted Christians. He approved of violence against followers of Christ and believed he was serving God.
Yet Jesus transformed his life completely.
Paul became one of the greatest missionaries in history because God’s grace was greater than Paul’s past.
Even King Manasseh, one of Judah’s most wicked kings, filled the nation with idolatry and bloodshed. But when he humbled himself before God and repented, God heard his prayer and showed him mercy.
What do these people have in common?
They were not perfect.
They were forgiven because they humbled themselves before God and turned back to Him.
The apostle John gives us this incredible promise:
“If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”
— 1 John 1:9
Notice what the verse says.
God is faithful.
Not because we deserve forgiveness.
But because He keeps His promises.
The prophet Isaiah wrote:
“Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow.”
— Isaiah 1:18
What an incredible picture.
No matter how stained your past may be, God is able to forgive those who genuinely turn to Him.
But the Bible also teaches that God’s forgiveness is never a license to continue living in sin.
Jesus called people to repent.
Repentance means more than feeling guilty.
It means turning away from sin and turning toward God with a heart that desires to obey Him.
God’s love is not shallow.
His grace is not cheap.
The cross cost the life of His only Son.
Jesus willingly suffered and died so that sinners could be forgiven and reconciled to God.
That is how much your soul is worth to Him.
Application
If your past keeps telling you that you are beyond God’s mercy, don’t believe that lie.
Your past may explain where you’ve been.
It does not have to determine where you are going.
Bring your failures to God.
Confess them honestly.
Repent sincerely.
Trust in Jesus Christ.
Live faithfully according to His Word.
You cannot rewrite yesterday.
But by God’s grace, you can live differently today.
The greatest testimony is not that you never fell.
It is that when you did, you turned back to the God who never stopped calling you home.
No matter how dark your past has been…
God’s mercy is greater.
His grace is deeper.
And His invitation still stands.
