Q: Does the Bible really say we could encounter an angel without knowing it?
A: Yes.
“Be not forgetful to entertain strangers: for thereby some have entertained angels unawares.” — Hebrews 13:2 KJV
Think about that.
The stranger you walked past. The person who needed help. The elderly man standing alone. The woman struggling with her groceries. The person who simply needed someone to stop, listen or show kindness.
You see a stranger.
God may see something you don’t.
Scripture gives examples of angels appearing in human form. Abraham welcomed visitors before realizing the significance of who had come to him. Lot received angelic visitors into his home. They didn’t arrive with glowing wings announcing themselves from heaven. They appeared as men.
That’s what makes Hebrews 13:2 so powerful.
You may not always know who you’re helping.
This doesn’t mean every stranger is an angel. It means God’s Word gives us another reason to treat people with kindness, hospitality and compassion—because sometimes there may be far more happening than our eyes can see.
Jesus also taught that how we treat those in need matters deeply:
“Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.” — Matthew 25:40 KJV
So slow down before you ignore someone.
Be careful how quickly you judge.
Help when you can.
Show kindness when nobody is watching.
Because one day you may discover that what looked like an ordinary moment…
wasn’t ordinary at all.
You thought you were helping a stranger.
You may have entertained an angel and never even knew it.
