This is one of the most heartbreaking questions a person can ask because every child is precious in the sight of God. Throughout Scripture, God consistently reveals His love for children and His hatred of innocent bloodshed. Human life is not something mankind created—it is a gift from God. Because He is the Author of life, only He has the authority over life and death.
The Bible teaches that every human life has value because every person is created in the image of God. Genesis 1:27 says, “So God created man in His own image.” That value is not earned by age, ability, wealth, or accomplishments. An unborn child, a newborn baby, and an elderly person all bear God’s image and possess God-given worth. The world’s opinion may change, but God’s does not.
God’s care for children begins before they are born. David declared in Psalm 139:13–16, “For You formed my inward parts; You covered me in my mother’s womb… Your eyes saw my substance, being yet unformed.” Likewise, God told Jeremiah in Jeremiah 1:5, “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you.” These passages show that God sees life in the womb as precious and purposeful, not accidental or insignificant.
One of the strongest statements in Scripture is found in Proverbs 6:16–19, where God lists seven things He hates. Among them are “hands that shed innocent blood.” Few people are more innocent than a child. God is a God of justice, and He takes the destruction of innocent life seriously.
Jesus also demonstrated God’s heart toward children. When people tried to keep children away from Him, He responded, “Let the little children come to Me, and do not forbid them; for of such is the kingdom of heaven.” (Matthew 19:14). Instead of treating children as unimportant, Jesus welcomed them, blessed them, and used their humility and trust as an example of true faith.
History also records moments when cultures sacrificed their children to false gods. God condemned these practices in the strongest possible terms. Through Leviticus 18:21, Jeremiah 7:31, and Ezekiel 16:20–21, He declared that offering children as sacrifices was a terrible sin and an abomination before Him. God never approved of the destruction of children for convenience, power, or religion.
At the same time, the Bible also proclaims God’s mercy. There are people who carry deep regret over decisions made in the past. The message of Scripture is not that anyone is beyond forgiveness. Jesus came into the world to save sinners. When a person genuinely repents and turns to Christ, God offers forgiveness, cleansing, and restoration. As 1 John 1:9 promises, “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” The cross is greater than our past when we come to Christ in repentance and faith.
The Bible’s message is clear. God treasures children. He values every human life because it is made in His image. He condemns the shedding of innocent blood, yet He also extends mercy to every sinner willing to repent. His desire is always life, truth, justice, forgiveness, and restoration through Jesus Christ.
