The Bible leaves absolutely no doubt about how God feels about children.
They are not an inconvenience.
They are not an accident.
They are not an afterthought.
They are a blessing from God, created in His image, loved by their Creator, and precious in His sight.
In a world that often treats children as disposable, the Scriptures present a completely different picture. From the opening pages of the Bible to the teachings of Jesus Christ, we see a God who deeply values, protects, and loves children.
Psalm 127:3 says:
“Children are a heritage from the Lord, offspring a reward from Him.”
Notice the language. God does not call children a burden. He calls them a reward. Every child represents a life created by God Himself. Every child carries immeasurable value because they bear the image of their Creator.
Perhaps nowhere is God’s love for children more clearly displayed than in the ministry of Jesus.
One day parents were bringing their children to Him. The disciples tried to send them away, believing Jesus was too important or too busy. But Jesus responded in a way that shocked everyone.
Mark 10:14 says:
“Let the little children come to Me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these.”
Imagine that scene.
The Creator of the universe stopping everything to welcome children into His presence.
The King of Kings did not push them aside.
He embraced them.
He blessed them.
He loved them.
And then Jesus issued one of the strongest warnings found anywhere in Scripture.
Matthew 18:6 says:
“If anyone causes one of these little ones who believe in Me to stumble, it would be better for them to have a large millstone hung around their neck and to be drowned in the depths of the sea.”
Those are not gentle words.
Those are words of judgment.
Jesus was making it clear that God takes the protection of children seriously. Very seriously.
When someone abuses, exploits, harms, traffics, neglects, or intentionally destroys the innocence of a child, they are not merely committing a crime against another human being. They are committing an offense against someone God treasures.
Many people like to focus only on God’s love while ignoring His justice. But the Bible teaches both.
God is loving.
God is merciful.
God is forgiving.
But God is also holy.
And He does not ignore evil.
Throughout Scripture, God repeatedly identifies Himself as the defender of the vulnerable, the weak, the innocent, and those who cannot protect themselves. Children fall squarely into that category.
The abuse and exploitation of children is among the darkest forms of evil imaginable. Human trafficking, abuse, abandonment, and violence against children break the heart of God. While human courts sometimes fail, God’s judgment never fails.
Ecclesiastes 12:14 says:
“For God will bring every deed into judgment, including every hidden thing, whether it is good or evil.”
Nothing is hidden from Him.
No secret abuse.
No hidden crime.
No exploitation done in darkness.
No child forgotten.
God sees it all.
And one day every person will stand before Him and give an account.
At the same time, Scripture offers hope. Many people carry deep wounds from childhood. Some were neglected. Some were abused. Some grew up without love, protection, or safety.
The good news of the Gospel is that God sees those wounds too.
Psalm 34:18 says:
“The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.”
God’s heart is not only against those who harm children. His heart is also for those who have been hurt.
He offers healing.
He offers comfort.
He offers restoration.
And He offers hope.
Ultimately, the Bible teaches that children matter because they matter to God. They are not statistics. They are not problems to be managed. They are souls created by the hand of God and loved by Him beyond measure.
So what does the Bible say about children?
It says they are a blessing.
It says they are precious.
It says they are worthy of protection.
It says Jesus welcomed them.
And it says God will hold accountable those who harm them.
The world may forget many things, but God never forgets a child.
Not one.
Not ever.
