Trade places for just one day. Wake up in North Korea, where your television tells you only what the government allows, your internet barely exists, your neighbors are expected to watch you, and one careless sentence can destroy your future or your family’s. Imagine living where criticizing the government is not a debate—it can become a prison sentence. Where escaping your country means risking your life. Where freedom is something you have heard about but have never experienced.

Now imagine being born in a country where openly following Jesus could cost you everything. Around the world, there are places where Christians gather in secret because a Bible can be treated as evidence against them. There are places where changing your religion can bring imprisonment or death, where governments and extremist groups silence people through fear. In some countries, people face severe punishment simply because they spoke against those in power, protested publicly, or lived in ways that authorities or armed groups refuse to tolerate. Freedom is not the world’s default. For millions, it is a dream they may never know.

Then look around. You may disagree with your leaders. You may complain about the news. You may post your opinions online without a knock at your door in the middle of the night. You can worship openly, own a Bible, speak your mind, vote, build a business, raise a family, and chase a future that belongs to you. America has flaws, and no nation is perfect, but never become so focused on what is wrong that you forget what countless people around the world would risk everything to have. Gratitude begins when you realize someone else’s impossible dream may already be your everyday life.
