Some people are slowly destroying the life they have today because they cannot let go of yesterday or stop worrying about tomorrow. Their bodies are present, but their minds are somewhere else. They keep reopening wounds that should be healing, replaying conversations that cannot be changed, regretting decisions that cannot be undone, and fearing things that haven’t even happened. And while they’re trapped between a dead past and an uncertain future, the life happening right in front of them is slipping away.
Yesterday is gone. You cannot go back and rewrite it. You cannot unsay the words, undo the mistakes, or bring back the moments you wasted. Learn from it. Repent where you need to. Make things right where you can. But stop dragging yesterday’s darkness into today’s light. Your past is supposed to teach you, not imprison you.
And tomorrow? Tomorrow isn’t promised. Yet people sacrifice their peace today worrying about problems that may never come. They imagine the worst, rehearse disasters in their minds, and exhaust themselves fighting battles that don’t even exist. They spend so much time preparing for what might go wrong that they forget to appreciate what is going right.
Jesus said in Matthew 6:34 (KJV): “Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.”
That doesn’t mean you shouldn’t plan for the future. It means you shouldn’t allow the future to steal your peace today.
Right now, you are alive. Right now, you have another opportunity. Another chance to love someone, forgive someone, make a change, strengthen your faith, improve your health, or simply appreciate the people sitting beside you. One day, some of those people will no longer be there. Some of the ordinary moments you overlook today will become memories you would give anything to experience again.
Don’t wait until something is gone to recognize its value.
Stop staring at doors that closed years ago. Stop living inside memories that only bring you pain. Stop allowing tomorrow’s uncertainty to rob you of today’s blessings. Put down the weight of what was and the fear of what might be.
Be where your feet are. Live where your heart is beating. Focus on what God has placed in front of you today.
Ecclesiastes 3:1 (KJV) reminds us: “To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven.”
This is your season. This is your moment. Not yesterday. Not tomorrow.
Yesterday is a graveyard of moments you cannot resurrect. Tomorrow is a road you haven’t been promised. But today is a gift God has placed in your hands.
Don’t waste it mourning a life that’s already passed or fearing one that hasn’t arrived.
Live today. Love today. Thank God for today. Because one day, today will be the yesterday you wish you could have back.
Restored Life After — You are not your past. You are what you choose to become.
