Life has a way of setting everything on fire. Relationships crumble, promises turn to ashes, and people who once swore they would never leave disappear the moment your world starts falling apart. When everything is going right, everybody wants to stand beside you. But when the darkness comes, when the battles get ugly, and when you have nothing left to offer, that’s when you discover who was truly there for you.
When the smoke clears, look around. Who’s still standing?
Not everyone who walked beside you was meant to survive the storm with you. Some people loved your success but couldn’t handle your struggles. Some enjoyed what you provided but disappeared when you needed something in return. And some were never really on your side. They were simply standing close enough to benefit from your light.
But don’t let their absence turn your heart bitter. Sometimes the fire doesn’t destroy your life. It exposes what was never strong enough to remain in it. The smoke clears, the noise dies, and suddenly you can see what was hidden all along.
And perhaps the most important person you need to find still standing is yourself. Wounded, exhausted, covered in scars, but still breathing. Still fighting. Still refusing to surrender. You may have lost people, opportunities, and pieces of the life you once knew, but you haven’t lost your purpose.
Remember, God never promised a life without fire. He promised that we would not have to face it alone.
Isaiah 43:2 (KJV): “When thou walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burned; neither shall the flame kindle upon thee.”
So when the smoke finally clears, don’t waste your life chasing the people who walked away. Appreciate the ones who stayed. Thank God for carrying you through what nearly destroyed you. And keep moving forward.
Because when the fire has burned away everything that was temporary, what remains reveals what was real.
And if you find yourself standing alone, remember this:
You’re still standing. And with God beside you, you’re not standing alone.
