We live in a world where every week someone claims to have discovered a new truth, a better path, or the missing piece that everyone else overlooked. New philosophies, influencers, spiritual movements, self-help gurus, and religious ideas compete for your attention every single day. Popularity, however, has never been proof of truth. A large following does not make a message right, and a confident speaker does not make a teaching biblical. Before you give anyone your trust, ask questions. Read. Study. Examine the evidence. Never hand your mind, your heart, or your eternity to someone simply because they sound convincing.
The Bible has warned about this for centuries. Paul wrote, “Test all things; hold fast what is good.” (1 Thessalonians 5:21). The apostle John said, “Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of God.” (1 John 4:1). Even the Bereans were praised because they searched the Scriptures daily to verify whether what Paul taught was true (Acts 17:11). If they examined the teaching of an apostle by the Scriptures, how much more should we examine the claims of every preacher, teacher, author, influencer, or movement today?
God never asked us to follow the latest trend. He never called us to build our lives on public opinion or changing culture. He gave us His Word as the standard. 2 Timothy 3:16–17 teaches that all Scripture is inspired by God and is sufficient to equip us for every good work. If a teaching contradicts God’s Word, it is not from God, no matter how attractive, emotional, or popular it may appear. Truth does not change with the times because God does not change.
Protect your mind. Be willing to ask difficult questions. Compare every teaching with Scripture. Don’t follow a crowd simply because it is large or a message simply because it is inspiring. Build your life on the unchanging Word of God. Trends will come and go. False teachers will rise and fall. Ideas will change with every generation. But “the word of the Lord endures forever.” (1 Peter 1:25). When your foundation is God’s truth, you will never have to wonder which way to go.
