One of the greatest lies ever told is that darkness always looks evil.
It doesn’t.
Darkness rarely introduces itself with horns, fire, and obvious danger. More often, it comes disguised as curiosity. A card reader who promises answers. A palm reader who claims to know your future. A medium who says they can speak to the dead. A séance that seems harmless. A spiritual guide offering secret knowledge. It appears innocent. Sometimes even comforting. It tells people exactly what they want to hear. It offers certainty when life feels uncertain. It promises hidden wisdom, secret power, or one more conversation with someone they desperately miss.
That is exactly what makes it dangerous.
The Bible is not vague about these things. From Genesis to Revelation, God repeatedly warns His people to stay away from witchcraft, mediums, sorcery, fortune-telling, and every attempt to seek supernatural knowledge apart from Him. Why? Because God understands something many people do not. Not every spiritual force comes from Heaven. Not every voice speaking spiritual truth is speaking God’s truth. Satan has never had a problem disguising himself as something attractive. The enemy rarely appears as a monster. He appears as an answer.
Think about it. If a dark spirit wanted to deceive someone, would it begin by terrifying them? Or would it tell them exactly what they wanted to hear? Would it reveal itself immediately? Or would it slowly gain trust? The most dangerous deception is not the one that frightens you away. It is the one that invites you closer. It gives just enough information, just enough comfort, and just enough fascination to make you believe you are in control when, in reality, you are opening a door that should never have been opened.
Many people today treat these things as entertainment. They play with Ouija boards. They attend séances. They seek psychics. They consume witchcraft as though it were harmless fun. Yet Scripture teaches that there is a very real spiritual battle taking place around us. Paul reminds us in Ephesians 6:12 that our struggle is not merely against flesh and blood, but against spiritual forces of evil. The danger is not in a deck of cards, a crystal ball, or a board game. The danger is in what those things can represent—a willingness to seek guidance, power, or answers from somewhere other than God.
The truth is that God does not want His children chasing voices in the darkness. He wants them walking in the light. He does not want you seeking the future through fortune tellers. He wants you trusting Him with the future. He does not want you searching for secret knowledge. He wants you searching His Word. He does not want you speaking to the dead. He wants you speaking to the Living God.
There is a reason Jesus called Himself the Light of the World. Light reveals. Darkness conceals. Light brings life. Darkness brings confusion. Light leads to God. Darkness leads away from Him. The enemy’s greatest victories often begin with small compromises. A little curiosity. A little experimentation. A little fascination with things God specifically warned us to avoid.
Do not mistake God’s warnings for limitations. They are protection. The same God who tells us to avoid these things is the God who loves us enough to know where those roads eventually lead. He sees dangers we cannot see. He understands battles we do not fully understand. When God says stay away from something, it is not because He wants to deprive us. It is because He wants to protect us.
The world may call it harmless.
The world may call it entertainment.
The world may call it enlightenment.
God calls His people to something better.
Walk in the light.
Stay close to Him.
And never seek answers from the darkness that can only truly be found in God.
