Some of the most satisfying things in life are absolutely free. Kindness costs nothing. A smile costs nothing. Listening to someone who needs to be heard costs nothing. Forgiving, encouraging, helping, loving, and simply treating another human being with respect require no money at all.

We spend so much of life chasing things with a price tag that we sometimes overlook the things that actually make us feel rich. You may forget what you bought last year, but you will remember the person who stood beside you when your world was falling apart. You will remember the unexpected phone call, the hand on your shoulder, the person who believed in you when you had stopped believing in yourself.

You don’t have to be wealthy to make someone’s life better. Be kind. Give your time. Love people while they’re still here. The greatest things you will ever give someone may never cost you a dime.
